George Romero on set of LAND OF THE DEAD (2005)

As any horror fan worth their salt knows, there’s a big red circle on the calendar around August bank holiday as Frightfest, the grandaddy of all horror film festivals, sharpens its claws and lands in London’s Leicester Square for five full days of frighteningly good fear – and they’re on the lookout for enthusiastic Frightfest volunteers to help crew the event.

Running from 24th – 28th August, Cineworld Empire Theatre and the Prince Charles Cinema are the places to be if you like your horror ramped up to 11 and your chills at sub zero.  Sponsored by the Horror Channel, since 2000 Frightfest has grown into the premier genre film festival in the UK today, an event that The Shape of Water director, Guillermo del Toro calls “the Woodstock of gore!” In 2005, the late, great George Romero chose Frightfest to premiere his Land of the Dead, and in 2017 Cult of Chucky and Leatherface were just a couple of top horror titles to receive their world premieres at the festival.

Volunteer for Frightfest

With a packed programme of screenings, panels and special events, Frightfest is putting out a call for Frightfest volunteers to help out over the festival. Roles include box office and tickets, information desk, cinema ushers, media wall and green room, stock and merchandise, and in return you’ll get tickets for FrightFest films (outside of your shift), FrightFest T-shirt and a ticket to the closing night party, as well as getting your hands dirty and being right at the dark heart of your favourite horror event.

So, if you’re confident, calm under pressure and not fazed by working to a busy schedule in a crowded festival environment, head over to or email to find out more.

Frightfest runs 24th – 28th August, 2018.
